About Me 

My name is Sam and I am a very amateur cook who enjoys finding food inspiration in things that I love. 

I decided to start this blog to challenge myself to find and make something from 'scratch' in my own kitchen every week. The recipes are all inspired by Critical Role Campaign 3 sessions. The food might not look like, or be the same as the food that is mentioned in the game. I might be going for a certain emotion, I might base a whole dish around one line, or one joke. I've always been the type of person who has enjoyed variations on a theme. While the original is often good, and worth celebrating, sometimes it's fun to think of things in a different way. When I was more active in the cosplay community I was the type of cosplayer who would take animal characters and re-interpret them as people. Or take characters and change their outfits to fit a different time period or setting. This to me is fun, and more a different challenge than a recreation - it's my own interpretation. Both are very valid! It's just my personal preference. As there haven't been many cosplay opportunities lately, this is now my version of art - I've never considered myself a talented artist, but I feel confident enough in my cooking ability to express my creativity in this way. And, just like many people draw a character with similar features, it often reflects their own artistic style, so that's me, and my cooking. 

I look forward to expanding my culinary horizons with Marquet. My cooking is traditionally midwestern in nature - meat and potatoes, casseroles, and ready/premade ingredients, which all feel to me like a far cry from the cuisine of Marquet whose cities are inspired by 12th century Turkey and early Palestine (Source). I'm hoping to do a little bit of each - some things that I'm familiar with that are a bit more within my comfort zone, but also learning new dishes, techniques, and flavors that might be more likely to be seen on the somewhat-new-to-us continent of Marquet. 

Here is my personal disclaimer: I am not perfect, I am learning. If you notice anything that you want to bring to my attention, please leave a comment on the post, and know that I appreciate your understanding and patience. As such my recipes may not always be perfect either, but cooking deals a lot in experimentation and trying out different things, so sometimes, it's not great. But we are all out here trying to do and be better today than we were yesterday.
