Off the Honored Trails Mix - Episode 18

MATT: You all watch as Ashton, weapon out of the side, and suddenly this pulse hits, Ashton drops the hammer and drags it on the ground behind them as they step forward towards the creature. The creature turns what you imagine its head to be to the side and then swallows him.
SAM: Ashton's gone?
TALIESIN: Help.
MARISHA: (laughs)
TRAVIS: It's again?
MARISHA: It's again.
TALIESIN: It's fucking again. (laughter)
TALIESIN: Again.
TRAVIS: Oh shit, guys.
LAURA: Uh-oh.
MATT: It's going to slowly-
LIAM: Oh dear.
LAURA: No, no. No, no, no, no.
MATT: Shift its way this way.
LAURA: It's very large.
SAM: Fearne, you're next.
MATT: That finishes its turn. Now it brings us to Fearne, with Orym on deck.
ASHLEY: Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. Okay, was uh - that changes things.
TALIESIN: It didn't, though.
ASHLEY: It didn't, it did not, okay. That's not going to work.
TALIESIN: Fuck.

Off the Honored Trails-mix

Just really hungry!

These last two weeks have been a lot, y'all. Honestly. I got a cold (yes I'm sure it was a cold), there was SO much programming... it's just been a lot. But you know what else is a lot? Trailmix! Trailmix was originally a way to get lots of yummy things into your pocket for you to graze on while you walk so you didn't have to stop to eat. It kept your energy up, kept your hunger anger down, and allowed you to travel lighter and farther. Ideally you'll want a balance of healthy fats, proteins, and vitamins, and some fun stuff! And, actually, this trailmix isn't all too bad! Prepare it before your next dnd session for a snack that keeps on snackin'. Or, pack it up and explore the honored trails in your neck of the woods! Here's what's in it, and how much...

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sunflower seeds (salted)
  • 1/4 cup M&M candies
  • 1/4 cup peanuts
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup dried blueberries
  • 1/4 cup chocolate Cheerios
  • 1/2 cup popcorn

Okay, but... why these ingredients? I spent a lot of time staring at the last episode for inspiration. It took longer than I want to admit for me to realize that the inspiration here wasn't something hidden in the episode, the characters were the inspiration! So that meant that everyone needed their own ingredient.

  • Sunflower seeds for Orym - for his smaller size but his druid flower crafting abilities.
  • M&M's for Ashton - for all of his colors, not to mention the extra colors when he rages!
  • Peanuts for FCG - because if you can't have the nuts and bolts, you can at least have the nuts!
  • Raisins for Chetney - because raisins transform from grapes and also are wrinkly. Also chutney?
  • Blueberries for Imogen - and the oddly dark blue color she turned recently...
  • Chocolate Cheerios for Laudna - because she's the "cheeriest" one of the bunch... but dark.
  • Popcorn for Fearne - she's fun, unique, spontaneous, loud, and a little heat only helps her flourish!

Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl and enjoy!

Tips, Suggestions, and Substitutions

Tips & Suggestions

  • The sunflower seeds will sink to the bottom because they are so small. Set it up in a shallow bowl, or maybe pre-portion out cups to make sure that everyone gets a little of everything.
  • You can try different kinds of M&M's if you like, just be aware that the size might matter.
  • The popcorn might float to the top. Try and crunch it into slightly smaller pieces so everything can incorporate a little better, if you can.

Substitutions

  • Another idea for Imogen: animal crackers. Especially the iced ones that are pink!
  • Another idea for FCG: actual nuts, like almonds!
  • Another idea for Fearne: flamin' hot Cheetos (or similar spicy snacks).
  • You can of course use whatever you want, and more ideas might come to you as the campaign goes on. Get creative!

In Conclusion...

Trailmix is not hard, and there are very few ways to do it wrong. While it does make a good snack, be careful not to eat too much of it! It's yummy, but the whole point is you're supposed to walk and eat. Consider portioning it out, but also... I'm not here to tell you how to eat. Enjoy your food! And if you make the trailmix or try your own ingredients, let me know what you use instead! It needs to eat. It's so hungry. We all get a turn on the water slide!
