Fudgeamasicles! - Episode 12 (Off Week)

MATT: Yes, as you enter the Trove of Marwa, you can see there has been an attempt made to straighten things up a bit. By that, I mean, things that had fallen have been shifted over this way and put into a pile that has not yet been organized. Marwa, at this point, you can see has a plate out with all sorts of dried cheeses that she's snacking on as she has this massive magnifying glass that is affixed to a clamp-like device to the side of the counter. And is currently in the process of carefully holding with massive tweezers these tiny little, pieces of jewelry, like a gem in a fitting. And is like--
MARISHA: I get a little too close. Whatcha working on?
MATT: "Stuff." Unfazed.
ALL: Oooh!
TRAVIS: Killer.
MATT: "What you looking for?"
MARISHA: I brought you a croissant. It's got blueberries. (laughter)
MATT: She just keeps working.
MARISHA: It's a friend croissant.
ASHLEY: (laughs)
MARISHA: Okay. Did you find that thing?
MATT: "Yeah, I did, just give me a minute." Ting, ting! "F-f-f- Fudgeamasicle! Okay, uh. I'm going to take a break." Just shoves it all to the side. You hear it scattering and falling to the ground. "Yeah, I found it, you want it?"
MARISHA: How much? Since you have it.
MATT: "Ah! That'd be 350 gold pieces."
MARISHA: You said it was less yesterday.
MATT: "I did not." Shakes it. (whooshing) "It's got blood in there, you like blood, creepy girl, woo-woo! Ah, mystical blood pouch. You want it?"

Two Fudgesicles on a plate, one with a bite out of it

Fudgeamasicles!

Oh, this friendship's gone south real fast.

Pretty may be the unofficial mascot of this blog, but Marwa has my heart. She is the chaotic force in the universe that I aspire to be. So I had to honor her with her 2nd recipe, these Fudgesicles! Since Critical Role is off this week, I like to take this opportunity to do recipes that I thought of, but couldn't fit into the cadence, or try new things! In this situation, I wanted to do Fudgesicles earlier, but I didn't have popsicle molds. I bought some, and gave it a whirl, and here is what came out. This recipe absolutely gets a bonus for being kid-friendly, so if you're looking for something fun to do with the kiddos, include them in your Fudgesicle creation, because these were super fun to make. I fully recognize that it's cold everywhere right now and maybe a Fudgesicle is the last thing you want, but this is a good recipe to bookmark or pin for later.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of milk (or cream, but I used milk)
  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
a picture of the ingredients listed above

Directions

  1. Heat milk in a microwave-safe bowl to hot, but not boiling.
  2. Whisk in sugar and cocoa powder and mix well.
  3. Slowly pour chocolate chips into the milk and mix well to melt the chocolate chips
    1. You may choose instead to pour the milk mixture over the chocolate chips rather than the other way.
    2. If your milk has cooled you might want to heat it a little more before adding the chips to make sure your chocolate chips melt
  4. Let the mixture cool for about 5 minutes and pour into popsicle molds (or plastic cups, or whatever you have on hand) that won't break in the freezer or collapse under the weight of the milk.
  5. Let the popsicles sit until completely frozen - around 6-8 hours. If you are adding your own popsicle sticks, try to add them about 4-5 hours in so they stay around the middle.

Tips, Suggestions, and Substitutions

Tips & Suggestions

  • I really appreciated having the specific popsicle molds for this, but again, a cup can get the job done.
  • I don't suggest trying to add any "mix-ins" to these Fudgesicles. The mixture is on the thinner side, not in a bad way, but if you mix anything in, it will sink to the bottom rather than float comfortably throughout. Unless that's what you want!

Substitutions

  • Personally, I'd love to try this with other flavorings. There are lots of kinds of chips out there, and I know their composition can be different, but I think it could be fun to try other things! In those situations, you'll likely want to swap out the cocoa powder for something else that matches the chips you use, maybe an extract. Or, maybe you keep the cocoa powder, and use peanut butter chips instead! As I mentioned, I know different kinds of chips might behave in different ways, but you'll never know 'til you try.
  • I don't recommend leaving the sugar out, but I don't know what would happen if you tried to substitute it for a different sweetener (give it a try? let me know how it goes?)

In Conclusion...

These were, unfortunately, not my favorites. They tasted a little dark-chocolately to me, and I'm not a big fan of dark chocolate, so I think either I would have liked to add more sugar, or adjust the ratios, or try some other kinds of chocolate chips. But I also am not convinced that I mixed them very well as one side of the Fudgesicle felt a little bit different from the other side. I think I'll try and make these again! Especially since the base is milk, and my mother will tell you that I didn't drink enough milk as a child (or you know, in general in my life). The best thing - because of the ingredients, you can 100% taste these beforehand and assume that not much will change - something that I need to remember more often. But! Just because this mix wasn't my ideal Fudgesicle, doesn't mean it won't be yours, so why not give it a try?

This recipe came from a blog called Chocolate, Chocolate, and More. I didn't change anything because I was interested in trying this as it was, but I do hope to explore other iterations and variations in the future. If you try to make this recipe, please tell me what you think and how it turned out for you! Especially if you try doing things differently than I did here. And, of course, as always, if you have any questions or suggestions, or just wanna say hi, please leave them in the comments below. Remember to follow me on Pinterest or Twitter, if those kinds of things are your jam. Thanks for visiting, and don't forget to love each other. Is it Thursday, yet?

Look, some men call this trash. Me? I called them treasures.
