MATT: No, you were 15-- no 10-- you would've been there, yeah, it's 15 feet from you, unfortunately. The one that's left.
MARISHA: Ah, that thing was nothing?
ROBBIE: No, whiff.
LAURA: I was hoping the bad guy was still--
MATT: No, it was a good call, it was a good call. But you didn't get the one that was near Orym, unfortunately.
MARISHA: But you got one thing.
MATT: But that one is going to attack you, Orym.
LAURA: I don't know if I got anything. I was hoping the big baddie--
ROBBIE: You fucked up that chair that got you, though.
LAURA: I was hoping that big baddie was in there.
LIAM: 20?
MATT: Natural 20.
SAM: Oh no.
ASHLEY: Uh-oh.
LIAM: This is going to put me down.
MATT: Hold on, one, two, five points of piercing damage.
LIAM: Okay.
TALIESIN: Hey.
SAM: Oh.
MATT: And... 10 points of necrotic.
LIAM: I'm still up. (cheering)
MATT: Oh shit! It rolled a 1 on one dice, and then a 2 and 3. So even on a crit, doubled-- Oh, no shit!
LIAM: I did a-- Not action surge, I keep confusing the two terms--
TALIESIN: I know you did, yeah, the-- Second Wind.
LIAM: Second Wind.
SAM: Oh, cool.
LIAM: Second Wind.
TALIESIN: Fuck, good, good.
MARISHA: Shit, oh shit, yeah!
ROBBIE: A little beefy boy.
LAURA: Surprisingly beefy.
ROBBIE: He is beefy.
MATT: And that's going to go ahead and finish its go.
LIAM: (winded) I'll take all of you on.

Little Beefy Boys
"I'll take all of you on."
This week, the events all lined up in my favor. We had a few people over for a big fundraiser event (It was Extra Life Game Day last weekend) so it just so happened I needed something to feed a few people for an undetermined amount of time. And when everyone started talking about Orym being the little beefy boy that he was, I knew I had my answer!
The best part about parties and slow cookers is that you just set it, and then leave it on warm for as long as you need. Suddenly you have food all day, or, alternatively, put everything in in the morning, turn the slow cooker on, and then dinner magically appears a few hours later. Needless to say, I love my slow cooker. If you don't own one, I can't recommend it enough - especially if you work from home!
Anyway! I have gotten very off track, let's move on to the little beefy boys, shall we?
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 3-4 cloves of garlic - minced
- 28 oz lil' smokies, preferably of the beef variety
A note for the pictures that follow: I made a double batch because I wanted to make sure we had enough and had leftovers. So it looks like it makes a lot, but it's a manageable amount, I promise you.
Directions
- In a medium-sized bowl mix together brown sugar, honey, ketchup, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and minced garlic.
- Put your lil' smokies in your slow cooker and pour the mixture overtop - mix well to coat
- Set your slow cooker to High for 2-3 hours or Low for 4 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Set the slow cooker to 'warm' (or the lowest setting) to keep it warm all day. Serve with toothpicks (or, toothpicks that look like little swords to complete the Orym effect!)
Tips, Suggestions, and Substitutions
Tips & Suggestions
- The lil' smokies probably have a little bit of water in their packaging. I drained them before I put them in the slow cooker but the water won't hurt anything. There's just enough liquid already, and I didn't want to add more.
- In my pictures here you can see that I used slow cooker liners. These are really good for fast clean-up as it's basically a plastic bag that you throw away. However... it's plastic, which is also not super great for the environment. But if cleaning up is the reason you don't use your slow cooker, the liners are a good option. Alternatively, you can shorten clean up with "grab green cookware & bakeware cleaner pods" which can clean the inside of your whole slow cooker in about 15 minutes with just a little scrubbing.
- This is another one of those "cook while you play" recipes. Since this is a pretty quick recipe for a slow cooker (taking anywhere from 2-4 hours) You can put it on at the start of the session, and take a break or eat when it's done. Or, if it's a long one, eat as you go!
- You could get some bread or rolls or something and make them like tiny hot dogs in buns! I just think that would be cute.
Substitutions
- If you like your little Beefy Boys to have a kick, try adding a little hot sauce or salsa. I'd suggest mixing it in about a teaspoon to a tablespoon at a time (depending on your tolerance and your preferred hot sauce) and tasting it before pouring it over your lil' smokies. We had some on hand but didn't try it as not everyone had a tolerance for heat. So, you could also serve it on the side for those who are interested and leave it out for those who enjoy less heat.
- If you don't have garlic on hand you could swap it out for about a teaspoon of garlic powder, but I really prefer the fresh garlic (it keeps forever and I always have it on hand now).
In Conclusion...
These turned out really good. The leftovers don't quite pack the same punch as when they are fresh and warm, but they reheat okay. Even the picky eaters at our party enjoyed these. I truly just wish I had tiny sword toothpicks.
This recipe was a mix of a couple that I combined - Crockpot Honey Garlic Little Smokies Sausages from Family Fresh Meals, and Lil Smokies Crock Pot Recipe: Little Smokies Appetizers from Mom Foodie.
If you make these little beefy boys I hope you'll share how they came out with me! I love seeing what people are making and how it turns out for them, and if they put their own spin on it. If you have any questions or suggestions, or just wanna say hi, please leave them in the comments below. Remember to follow me on Pinterest or Twitter, if you hang around these kinds of places. Thanks for visiting, and don't forget to love each other. Is it Thursday, yet?
Don't underestimate the little guy, he could be a beefy boy!
