MATT: Yes, you do. You see very clearly that this continues on to the very edge of your visual range, straight down. With your perception as well, you can see on the walls around you, they look carved, but you can see all manner of claw marks. Like these have been climbed and skittered up through. Numerous times.
LIAM: You okay, Fearnie?
ASHLEY: I'm going to get close to the wall and taste a little bit of the claw marks. Try to see what I can taste.
SAM: Taste the claw. (laughter)
MATT: Using the same perception roll. It tastes like the edge of a dirt wall. You don't pick up anything specific, the palate isn't so strong that you would pick up anything particular than just the makeup of the wall itself. But you can now say you've tasted a clawed wall.
ASHLEY: Yes. (hisses) I slither up and come back to his shoulder.
LIAM: How did you-- You said the coin--
SAM: Yeah, if you drop it.
LIAM: You said if I drop it, it gives a visual?
SAM: It will make a sound and tell you exactly how far, how deep.
MARISHA: Like bats.
LAURA: Oh.
LIAM: Well, shoot. All right. Stick in close, Fearne. I'm about to lose visual. (whoosh)
MATT: You drop it and looking down, you can see the glow of this tiny little bead of light. (whooshing) You see it shifting slightly as the air shifts. You can see the tunnel turns slightly, and so you can't see it anymore. There's some sort of a shift or a curve to the drop, but you still don't hear anything.
LIAM: What?
MARISHA: What?
LIAM: It just went--
MATT: It just went out of view, but you haven't heard it really impact anything.
LIAM: Okay. Okay. I don't know what I'm looking at here. I just dropped Letters' coin.
LAURA: (whispered) Keep on looking because he's going to tell you when it's going to drop.
LIAM: It's going around a corner? All right.
MATT: And you wait. (echoing pinging sound)
LIAM: I spoke too soon. (laughter)

A Clawed Wall
or Spelunking Pudding Cups
You can now say you've tased a clawed wall.
Alright, team, this recipe is not so much a recipe as it was just really really fun to make! In my humble opinion, this is probably the first thing that I've created that I would call "fan art" even though it's also entirely edible, which, I think is a bonus, personally.
I have a guess at what some of you are thinking "there were breakfast sandwiches, and an entire character called the shadow baker dedicated to food in this episode... and you made a clawed wall?" Yep, I did. I know there are a lot of folks out there who enjoy making the foods featured in the episodes, but that just isn't how I work, creatively. I have more fun finding jokes, or scenes, or lines that can be turned into whole dishes. I enjoy the ability to make it my own and make it open for interpretation. There will probably be some exceptions here and there, but to me, this is a more enjoyable way to cook, and that, to me, is what cooking is all about, finding the joy.
So I bought instant pudding, bags of gummy bears and gummy worms, and a really tall and skinny glass all just for this joke. Let's cave dive!
Ingredients
- 1 box of Jell-o Instant Chocolate Pudding
- Oreos
- Milk
- Gummy Bears
- Gummy Worms
- Twizzlers pull 'n' peel candy
- Sprinkles, chocolate chips, tiny candy pieces
So in the picture here I have sprinkles and chocolate chips, but when I made it I only used sprinkles. I wanted to see if the sprinkle would be effective enough and it was! I tossed one sprinkle into the bottom of the glass to simulate the Coin of Delving. Another good option might be one shaved-down peanut butter or butterscotch chip (if you have them on hand - I didn't, but I did have sprinkles!).
Directions
- Make the pudding according to the directions on the box (mix 2 cups of milk with one package of pudding and stir for 2 minutes, then let it rest for about 5 minutes).
- Crumble up Oreo cookies (I found the right ratio was about 5 cookies per cup of pudding). Mix these in right before you assemble your pudding cup (or the Oreos get kinda soggy and not as good)
- Put your Coin of Delving into your pudding cup, cover with pudding, filling the cup about 75% of the way.
- Add one gummy bear (green if you can) and one gummy worm (also green or purple if you can) who are attached to a single strand of the pull 'n' peel Twizzler and drop into the pudding cup on top of the pudding
- Cover with more pudding
- Decorate the top if you want, and enjoy!
Tips, Suggestions, and Substitutions
Tips & Suggestions
- You can of course use more or less Oreos as you like. I liked this ratio because I wanted it to have a crunchier texture. Feel free to adjust for what's best for you.
- Seriously don't mix the Oreos and pudding until you plan to make it and eat it. It's better that way.
- You can also sprinkle some Oreos on top if you want that dirt texture on top of the pudding too.
Substitutions
- You can also use fudge pudding if you want a darker color.
- Any color of gummy bear or worm will work, I tried to go with green for Orym and then green and purple for Fearne with her little tuft of purple hair.
- I considered using Sour Patch kids instead, but I was worried that the sour powder on the outside would get mixed in and... sour pudding didn't sound like something I wanted to eat, so we went with bears, which I think are easier to get anyway.
In Conclusion...
This was pretty good, but mostly it was really fun, I think that was the most satisfying part. Also, yes, I know that all of the gummy bears are the same size and the whole point is that only Orym fits down the hole, but I really wanted to decorate it and it was too cute to pass up. I used the best colors that I could for everyone. I honestly just spent the whole time putting this together laughing to myself in the kitchen like a maniac because it was so funny to me, so highly suggest trying to recreate this on your own, but maybe using not-so-deep cups because that was a lot of pudding for one serving! My partner also suggested trying to make a tunnel down the middle, since Orym was going down a tunnel and not buried alive, but I was using the pudding to symbolize the darkness, but I suppose that's something that others could try!
If you haven't heard of this sort of thing before, this pudding cup was inspired by a childhood recipe of "dirt and worms," pudding cups. I added the gummy bears and the Twizzler, and of course the Coin of Delving that we will never get back, but otherwise, it's the same basic concept.
If you decide to go forth and make this recipe, please share your pictures with me! I want to see all of these little spelunking Oryms and Fearns! If you have any questions or suggestions, or just wanna say hi, please leave them in the comments below. Remember to follow me on Pinterest or Twitter, if those kinds of things are your jam. Thanks for visiting, and don't forget to love each other. Is it Thursday, yet?
Now let's go find a replacement coin
